About this opportunity
The U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy invites input from the public regarding a potential effort to obtain field measurement data on and around large-scale (1:5 or greater) marine and hydrokinetic (MHK) devices, specifically wave energy converters (WECs) or current energy converters (CECs). Comments regarding the availability of devices and pre-permitted sites for such an effort are specifically requested, as well as discussion of the potential benefits of verified and validated open source numerical design tools and publicly accessible field measurement validation datasets. The WWPTO requests information in three broad categories: (1) questions regarding data and design tool gaps and deployment plans; (2) WEC intellectual property considerations; and (3) CEC intellectual property considerations. Respondents are encouraged to complete category (1) and either category (2) or category (3). The information gathered from this RFI will be used to inform strategic planning by the WWPTO to advance the MHK industry. The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to gather feedback from stakeholders prior to DOE potentially issuing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). This RFI is not a FOA; therefore, DOE is not accepting applications at this time. Responses to this RFI must be submitted electronically to 1118RFIMHK@go.doe.gov no later than 5:00pm (EDT) on June 19, 2014. Responses must be provided as a Microsoft Word (.docx) attachment to the email, of no more than 5 pages in length, 12 point font, 1 inch margins. Only electronic responses will be accepted.
